Notice to dog and cat owners re. 2017 licensing

Renewal mailings have gone out for the 2017 licensing of Dogs and Cats. State statute requires that all dogs 6 months or older must be licensed.

Please note that a license can only be issued if the current rabies certificate is valid for at least the first ten months of the current year. If your pet’s rabies certificate expires prior to November 1st, you must vaccinate your pet prior to receiving a new license. This falls under the state statutes and is not negotiable by the Elmwood Park Health Department.

Bergen County Animal Shelter holds a low cost vaccine clinic twice a month. At the clinic, NJ residents can have their dog/cat vaccinated against rabies FREE of charge. For information regarding the scheduling of clinics, you can reach the Bergen County Animal Shelter at 201-229-4600.

Any license that is not renewed by January 31, 2017 will be subject to a $20 late charge enforced by a Board of Health ordinance. However, the late fee will be waived for pet owners if an animal receives a rabies vaccine at the rabies clinic that is run by the Elmwood Park Health Department. The rabies clinic usually takes place during the month of May; however, at this time, the clinic has not yet been scheduled. When the clinic is scheduled, it will be published here.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the Health Department.
